Humanitarian Emergency Response

ALDEF supports communities affected by disasters, supporting them with various felt needs as a stop-gap measure.

ALDEF Kenya works in areas that are prone to a multiplicity of disasters. In the past, ALDEF Kenya channeled a lot of efforts into the distribution of food and non-food items to save lives and alleviate suffering for vulnerable communities and individuals in crisis.

OUR WORK INVOLVES

ALDEF Kenya will continue to support communities affected by disasters, supporting them with various felt needs as a stop-gap measure. Moreover, more efforts will be dedicated to supporting and empowering the communities not only to increase their understanding but also to claim their rights as well as to hold duty bearers to account for the provision of quality services and assistance; and, protection from violence, coercion, and deliberate deprivation.

Towards this endeavor, ALDEF Kenya will gradually shift away from the ‘business as usual approach to a more transformative approach in humanitarian response embracing a rights-based approach and perspectives by supporting systemic changes that influence emergency response activities to ensure accountability to humanitarian requirements and statutory obligations. This new approach, therefore, will include working with players, actors, institutions, etc. to ensure respect for human rights, care, and concerns for the marginalized and vulnerable groups as well as those requiring special attention.
